FORMATION

This 50 piece installation was created for a juried show in which each artist was asked to make a piece a day for fifty consecutive days. I chose to work with salvaged materials and a very minimal palette. The substrates are cut from reclaimed shelves and sanded to have soft corners. The nails are from local construction sites and the paint is leftover from home projects. I found meaning in the act of forming the nails in rows, clusters, and other arbitrary arrangements. These metal pieces became more than their functionality. Their order connoting importance and duty amongst the paper and paint shapes below them. These pieces are my most sculptural work as some of them come off the plane almost three inches.
